Application Directions

Download the application form, type directly on the form (do not handwrite), then print it two-sided and send it to NSD by mail. Completion of the application form requires students and parents to read and agree to the NSD rules.

Application Information

  • The fee for NSD 2012 Lincoln-Douglas two weeks is $2350, Student Congress two weeks is $2350, and Lincoln-Douglas three weeks is $3450. Payment is by check only and is due when submitting an application.
  • The Early Decision Deadline is January 1 (see FAQ chances of admission).
  • The Application Deadline is June 8. Application, payment, copy of medical insurance card, and record of most recent tetanus shot must be received by NSD by June 8.
  • Payment check, tetanus shot record and a copy of medical insurance card must be sent with application. Please copy your tetanus and medical insurance information on one page.
  • NSD begins accepting applications as soon as dates are announced and stops when full. Payment is due when the application is submitted.
  • Applications with missing signatures or medical documents are not reviewed.
  • Mail your completed application, record of most recent tetanus shot, and a copy of your medical card with a check made payable to National Symposium for Debate to:

  • Students are notified of acceptance by mail.
  • Students should not make travel arrangements until they have received an acceptance letter.
  • NSD does not provide services for unaccompanied minors. Parents should plan to accompany students who cannot travel alone or arrange travel with another student.
  • Once accepted, a student should go to the Travel section of the website and make travel plans, in accordance with directions given there. Send travel plans with travel plan and student name on the subject line to nationalsymposium@gmail.com.
  • Travel plans are due by June 10, or sooner.
  • Acceptance to NSD will be revoked for any student who does not follow the airport information and the arrival and departure times specified.
